Tasting notes – Highland

IMG_1856Balblair 03

Pale in colour like straw (belied by this photograph) with a floral nose of apples and a honeyed caramel sweetness. The palate is a malty pure spirit flavour with more of that honey and a fresh citrus fruitiness.

The finish has wood, spice and again a sweetness of possibly caramel. This is just a very elegant old school release.

Fettercairn Fior

This whisky is almost red in colour as the golden caramel is tinged with the sunset. The nose has hints of phenol as well as a complexity of caramel, coffee, black pepper and menthol.

The palate is huge with a nutty sweetness of marzipan, white pepper and burn oak. The finish is remarkably smooth with spicy oak and a roast beef meatiness and a warm seam of alcohol running through.
