I love your cookbook stories, mine are a little boring - I actually just buy and collect and never read! I think there are maybe 1-2 books I have ever used really, one would have to be the Flavour Thesaurus - other than that I skim through most. However just having over 400 cookbooks (yes I know I am showing off), I like being surrounded by foodie passion, history and positive cookery energy! Love the Chat Noir cookbook u write in - u dont want to see what I write in :) scraps of paper!! Also my grandmom's handwritten notes of recipes which I keep adding too!! But you are right, when I do read cookbooks, I read them like a storybook, a landscape of a country, cuisine or culture.

What a brilliant collection. I have the What to Eat book, but I have yet to read it, must get it off the shelf right now and pop it on the bedside table. I read her other books and they were really good.

Totally agree with you about Marcella Hazan - that's someone who really knows what they're talking about. As for 'girls like boys who can cook properly' - that has been one of the main guiding principles of my life and a key to great happiness. Love the notebook - I'm constantly losing mine.
