Pairing wine with food is really fun. I enjoy that too and I find that your tastebuds get more sensitive over time and you learn how to taste wine.
Most of my relatives in Italy grow wine and it is so cheap over there and more natural and lighter as it contains less preservatives but it would not travel very well.
Maybe one day your passion for wine will turn into reality. I hope it will.
Take care

You were lucky to start with Jacobs Creek! It was Concorde and Don Coretz when I was a student. I love Italian wine, Montepulciano is a fave. Keep drinking, trying and challenginging yourself with wine, always take risks!
